There is a photo of Loretta's ancestors hanging in the foyer of the Castorini home, and the camera pans to it in the final shot of the movie. We see it every time someone enters the home but this is the only time it gets its own focus. I love the dramatic themes of family in Moonstruck. We get feuding brothers, a dying mother, a husband cheating on his wife, emotional immaturity, loving aunts and uncles, a widow, broken engagements, a family business, women holding down the fort, and a grandfather trying to instill integrity into his son. In the final scene, which is very dramatic, the grandfather begs the family, "someone tell a joke!" I feel like that encapsulates the feeling of being comfortable with your family members even if they aren't comfortable with themselves. I tied that in to the beautiful photo of the family ancestors, looking over all of the comings and goings in their home.
