On Monhegan, seaglass is everywhere. Most of it is perfectly smooth from being tossed against the cliffs and jetties, bounced along the island's bold shore until it lands back on the beach. Some of the glass is still new and sharp, because it's a lot easier to smash your glass bottles on remote rocks than to pay for trash and recycling removal on a barge that charges by the pound. The beaches on Monhegan are covered in coarse sand and seaglass of all colors; burgundy, deep blue, green, and brown. I can feel the sand between my toes even now. There is glass from Monhegan on my nightstand and my bookcase, along with shells I pick up in my wanderings.
